Wheelin’ in the Country- Summertown

Wheelin' in the Country- Summertown

Smokehouse came up with the idea of a one day trip to Wheelin’ in the Country this weekend. Looks like it’s a pretty big weekend for them as they are having Trucks Gone Wild. Anyway, we aren’t really going for the truck show but to climb some rocks and hills.

I’m a little worried about going this close to Harlan because it will probably mean long nights in the garage fixing what I break to be ready for Harlan, but that’s why we build them…..to break them. So, if anyone is interested, we are going to load up Friday night and leave out Saturday morning around 4AM. It looks like it takes 4hrs to get there.

We will wheel all day(or until our shit breaks) and drive home that evening.

I’m so excited about this I can’t think straight while at work.

This park is definitely going to stay on my list. I broke my pinion in two on Twister3 as soon as we got there. Right behind me a guy broke a Rockwell axle and the next guy flipped.

I didn’t see anyone climb it. I hit it probably four times hard and I never felt like I was about to come on up. The rest of our day was cruising with Smokehouse in the Cherokee. The Cherokee and Justin Neighbors’ rig both did good all day and half of the night. I’m telling you, there are some tough trails at this park.

The Xtreme 4×4 Hummer got trashed by a guy that borrowed it as a tow rig.several flips down a hill through the trees at about 3am this morning did it in. I’ll post a pic of it later. We watched Tim Cameron, Brian Cole, all the Tanner crew, John Deere buggy and several others do some insane shit on hills that I couldn’t even climb if I was trying and they were riding wheelies and turning around in the middle of it.

It smelled like you were at a top fuel race! Anyway, a great time and only 4.5 hrs makes it high priority for me.

The Madram11 page on Facebook has a bunch up also.

I see that the roof rack is gone on the hummer but I am surprised that the top isn’t smashed in. Still looks like plenty of damage though!

Do you think the pinion broke due to deflection away from the ring gear or did it just twist the pinion shaft in half?

My guess is that I stayed in the throttle too long when I was sliding back down. It didn’t feel like I did, but that’s the only thing that makes sense. I was pretty surprised that I couldn’t climb it dry and I hit it pretty hard three times. It still amazes me that those buggies climb it wet.

It is steep! If you look at the Madram vids, JTanner does the exact same thing that I did on Twister3. It’s called the “Yardsale Vid” because everyone broke their shit.

Anyway, I bought a 14bolt today from Smokehouse and was going to try and get it in before Harlan but there is quite a bit of fab to do. I still think the D70 is pretty tough so I might put a new set of gears in it and start building a steering 14bolt.

Had a absolute blast at wheeling in the country. The park has trails of all sorts and the more difficult trails are fairly close to each other. I climbed the right side of the ledge and climbed cherokee hill in 3 different spots in my cherokee.

Theres a shop on site that has welders torchs wrenchs and spare parts of all sorts and 2 guys there to help ya. which came in handy cause after returning joes buggy to camp after it broke I noticed I had ripped a lower front driver side control arm mount off my axle. that was weakened from the saline county rock jam. Anywho we went to the shop and torched the rest off . Found some tabs and mached it up then the shop guy welded it on.

So $30.00 dollars later we where back on the trail. And just in time to watch the freestyle show on flipper by the big rigs. which was outstanding. The cherokee performed very well and couldn’t have been happier. good time was had by all. just wish that joe could’ve got to play more.

But it only being 4 hours makes it a difinit that i’ll be going back.

Thats pretty sweet to have a shop there. Sounds like an awesome park to visit.
